I spoke about this in the spring of 2024 here on the Zen blog, and it continues to be a necessary dose of reality. Not to mention, it fits perfectly as a quick reminder. This Zen Quickie was sparked by a conversation this morning, that is NOT uncommon whatsoever.
A client of mine (who is retired) was talking about a friend (also retired) who is exhausted. She has one day a week where she's not working caring for someone else (not family or friend) where she can golf with her friends. Personally, I know very few retired people professionally and personally who ARE NOT like this, sadly.

Once again, I think of the "All or Nothing" mentality and how it's dragging down our wellbeing, when we continue to ignore it and live in this way. Naturally, there's alot of factors for retired folks in their desire to keep busy. Fair point. However, keeping so busy that you are exhausted and most likely missing out on things you enjoy, doesn't sound like much of a retirement... 🤔 Or way to live in general, really. Not to mention, feeling exhausted is NOT condusive to a healthy lifestyle. Period. Feeling exhausted means you're drained! It means you're NOT creating a balance.
There's a FREE tool to ALL OF US (not just retired people), that WHEN USED in a way that serves you, is an incredible boost to your deep health: The ABILITY to say "NO!". It's NOT selfish. It's NOT mean. It's putting YOURSELF / YOUR health first!!!
👉When you do CHOOSE to say "YES'' you'll have so much more to give!
👉You'll have TIME and OPPORTUNITY to feed YOUR soul, not just other people's
👉You'll feel MORE energy, vibrance and excitement for whatever each day will bring
👉You'll feel MORE control over your time, health and wellbeing
You CAN CHOOSE! Retired and working folks alike today constantly complain of "being busy"... but it's a CHOICE in MOST cases, not a necessity. The ability to CHOOSE is strengthened when you practice balancing your "No's" and "Yes'". Without balance, you're still living in the "All or Nothing" world, which drags your health down over time.
