Slow the $%^& Down!!!
Seriously!!!
Quick to the point, daily practices to help undo what we KEEP DOING day in, day out...
STOP multitasking. The 90's (sadly) are gone. Multitasking has been proving OVER AND OVER to NOT be healthy OR productive. Single tasking is the natural, superpower that allows QUALITY work, focus and is what our brain actually does naturally. Today with SO MUCH distraction at every turn, we are missing information, not ACTUALLY taking in information and details, and we are NOT doing GOOD, QUALITY work.
STOP checking messages/emails/voicemails if you can't respond NOW.
To continue the multitasking conversation; it's common to hear things like "I got your message but forgot to write/call you back". This typically because we're "looking at" or "listening to" the messages when we really don't have the ability to respond or even take it in at that moment. We're usually busy doing something else at the same time! This not only doesn't allow our brain to process the information of the message, but it doesn't allow us to even retain the fact that we received it because before we're even DONE reading/listening to it our brain has been trained to be looking for "what's next".
STOP rushing through information. Too often (I'm sure we can all relate) we're being asked questions when the answer has already been provided. Again, we've trained our brain to go to the "next thing" so quickly, we're NOT EVEN REGISTERING the information that has come in. BEFORE you ask a question about a previous text, email or piece of information in a social media post, SLOW DOWN, SCROLL BACK (it takes less than 1-minute) and double check that the question you're about to ask hasn't ALREADY been answered. 9/10 times today, IT HAS but you DIDN'T PROCESS the information because you're moving TOO FAST.
STOP committing without certainty. Today, WAY TOO MANY of us are committing to WAY TOO MANY THINGS (even the good stuff) without understanding the details of what we're committing to and/or looking at our calendars to ensure we CAN COMMIT fully. We're jumping in without totally understanding why and we end up half-assing things and/or quitting (sometimes before it even starts).

The COMMON ground here is that EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE modern day habits are BEING TRAINED EVERY SINGLE DAY (and most of us aren't even realizing it - how can we when we DON'T slow down enough??). The way we move through our days is building the "strength" of these practices and most of modern day society has become VERY GOOD AT IT.
The pitfalls of this practice...
Low energy
Brain fog
Lack of focus and attention
Inability to see things through (including your own habits/intentions)
Increased "forgetfulness" (but how can we forget what we haven't really processed?)
Poor sleep (quality and quantity)
Increased stress and anxiety
Negative self-confidence
Lower quality work
Reduced creativity
... just to name a few.
*If you're relating to any of these SYMPTOMS mentioned here - You're NOT "broken". But you are building the habits that CREATE THESE SYMPTOMS by the little things you're doing throughout your entire days and weeks.
We also need to recognize that these habits are impacting not just our own DEEP HEALTH, but those around us. Everything from our social relationships, our community, businesses, groups/teams we interact with... They're all being impacted from our individual practices within our daily lifestyle routines.
Until you first RECOGNIZE what's happening and then WANT to feel differently, you will forever struggle with these symptoms. (Sorry to be so negative here, but THIS REALITY is holding SO MANY PEOPLE back from feeling SO MUCH BETTER! And it truly doesn't take as much as you think to create that positive shift!).
