What REAL progress ACTUALLY is

Many of us have this glorified view of health and wellbeing, and "how things will progress" as we do our best to create new habits and lifestyle changes. This "glorified view" of "how things work" is sponsored by Social Media and Internet Guru's. 🫣
Here's what we THINK progress will / does look like...

Start changing your lifestyle and doing "all the right things" and THIS is how I will progress. Right?
NOPE - THAT'S NOT REAL LIFE. THAT'S NOT NATURE. THAT'S NOT US.
Here is the REALITY.... 👇👇👇👇👇

Now some folks may look at that and think, "Ugh!". Yet that REALITY is what helps us become STRONGER, more RESILIENT and create SUSTAINABLE CHANGE!!!
We don't get better from ZERO adversity, setbacks, mistakes, or resistance. We get better BECAUSE of those things!! We create POSITIVE change due to "negatives". All of these things help us grow, learn, adjust and strengthen (mentally and physically). That initial graph showing our skewed "view of progress" does NONE of these things. There's NO resistance/"speed bumps" along the way.
WE'RE TOO COMPLEX FOR THAT TO BE OUR REALITY!
Everything in REAL LIFE has MULTIPLE factors that go into both success and resistance along the way. Let's take the "I'm going to the gym 3-days a week" target for example. It's NOT as simple as Think it + Make it Happen = Happy and Healthy. Here's why...
Your Gym membership costs $60/mth. You may have to work an extra bit of time for that extra cost (which cuts into time and energy for actually going)
You have to ensure your gym bag, shoes etc are ready to go
You have to decide what clothes to wear to the gym
You have to decide what shoes to buy/wear to the gym
You have to travel to the gym (that takes time)
You have to work your other life responsibilities around the gym (work, friends, kids, errands, house work etc)
You have to decide what you're doing at the gym once you get there
You have to figure out when you go to the gym (before work, after work, lunch hour...)
... The list goes on.
ALL of that is INVOLVED for that ONE decision. See? Life is COMPLEX. Now consider our human physiology, where after hundreds of years we're STILL discovering NEW things about how it works!!! Take that into consideration when thinking about ALL factors that may contribute to your physiology changing for positive or negative reasons. WHOA!!
