Recovery Creates BALANCE

This is a quick example from a client that encompasses a few elements of a healthy, realistic approach to deep health:
~ Listening to her body
~ "Allowing" herself recovery time
~ Being OK with not always pushing herself
~ NOT following the "norm" or status quo

She shared the story with me about how she was moving a ton of rocks at home. She would load a bucket full and carry them up a hill to where she needed to move them. (It was also a realization why we practice suitcase carries with the kettlebell when she comes to the studio 🤣).
She explained there was A LOT of up and down the hill carrying buckets full of these heavy rocks (which she also said was heavier than her weight she carries here!).
The next day, she felt tired. Not in an awful way, but rather in a way that had her reminded that her body did a good amount of work the day before. Instead of pushing herself to "get stuff done" or "do more" of something that day, she opted for a day of recovery!
And guess what THAT CHOICE did for her...
She felt great the next day!
Let's go back over the points made at the start of this post:
Listening to her body
She GAVE her body what it NEEDED in that moment/day, rather than what she felt she "had to do" or "should do" because "things have to get done".
"Allowing" herself recovery time
She was OK with the fact that her body had done some tough work the day before. She LET herself feel what her body was saying, so that she could more easily make the decision to take a day to let her body recover.
Being OK with not always pushing herself
Not only did she listen to her physiology (which had served her well the day before) but most importantly SHE was OK with HER decision to NOT push herself AGAIN... especially when she didn't "have to".
NOT following the "norm" or status quo
She did what SHE needed for HERSELF to feel GOOD, rather than deciding based on society and how it is constantly pushing us to do MORE, FASTER and CONSTANTLY (which has most of us feeling WORSE, not BETTER).
We're so STUCK in the "norm" and the "all or nothing" mindset that we exhaust ourselves because we think it's the "right thing to do" or the "strong/tough thing to do". YET, Mother Nature (your own physiology) reminds us that THE OPPOSITE IS TRUE. After a hard day's work (which doesn't have to be physical FYI), taking a day to RECOVER (which doesn't mean Netflix and the couch) CREATES balance and allows you to FEEL GOOD more quickly!! Taking ONE DAY to recover, taking one day to use lighter weights in your strength routine, taking one day to do a different activity... are all going to allow you to RECOVER and come back feeling EVEN BETTER!!
I love this "ah ha" moments and discussions with Zenergy clients, which is why I had to share this Zen Quickie with you! It's hard to go "against the grain" and the norm of "push-push-push"... But IT WORKS and it is a MUCH less stressful way to create the healthy lifestyle YOU want.
