Slowing Down is a Superpower

A quick note for a Zen Quickie post, because this has come up a few times just this week (and certainly has become a norm over the last few years). I've heard the common sayings this week;
"I forgot about the appointment" or "I didn't realize I booked 'x' on the same day"
OR
showing up on a completely different day than the actual appointment.
This is a VERY sad reality, but it sure makes things clearer to see why our health is lagging behind where we want it to be. Even with technology helping send reminders right to our preferred device/app, for an appointment we booked for ourselves, we aren't able to organize ourselves.
It's not that you're "getting old"...
It's not that you're "stupid" or "forgetful"...
It's not that you "can never get anything right"...
It IS because you OVER-COMMIT, BOOK TOO MUCH in every free time in your days/weeks and you DON'T practice SLOWING DOWN enough to breathe and GET yourself organized!
If we want to take a positive out of this current state of affairs -
You're NOT alone. You have plenty of folks keeping you company.

REMINDER:
👉 You're NOT losing your memory or getting old! Seriously, STOP saying that - it's NOT helping you in ANY way.
You ARE however, practicing keeping your brain in OVERDRIVE with ZERO down time, ZERO time to check in with YOURSELF and your PHYSIOLOGY and ZERO time to take in what you're experiencing in any given moment because you're already thinking about the next 2-3 things.
👉 I'm not saying we all need to meditate and become elightened. Though this WOULD help many of us, we don't have to. What I just mentioned previously about SLOWING DOWN, actually practicing BEING PRESENT and taking in the MOMENT NOW and tuning into YOURSELF is a form of mindfulness that can benefit our health greatly!
👉 The "Elephant in the Room" is probably already clear - You DO SUCK at saying "NO". We have severe FOMO today (fear of missing out) and a severe lack of understanding that our energy is NOT infinite. When we DON'T practice saying NO to some things, we only get better at constantly saying "Yes". This is why some of the worst offenders to their own health are retired folks and parents of young kids. Retired people "have lots of time" right? They can say yes to all kinds of things. That is, until they suddenly are realizing they DON'T have time for themselves. Parents of young kids have their kids in 20 different sports, groups or events in their prime childhood development years because of FOMO in that sport world or because they don't want to deal with their kids if they say "pick one activity per season only".

In our society RIGHT NOW, TODAY, you can have a SUPERPOWER that most around you DON'T have - You can SLOW DOWN, CHECK IN regularly with yourself and your health and feel SO MUCH MORE energy and vibrance for this ONE life we get to live.
