Contradiction in Action

We are so contradictory in our efforts when trying to create POSITIVE change to our health and wellbeing. Precision Nutrition shared this awesome and simple graphic recently that speaks VOLUMES!

Too many of us have approached health with the best of intentions such as;


Longevity

Strength

Performance

Managing pain, discomfort and/or chronic health concerns


... the list goes on.


Yet, the majority of us STOP. Why? Because although we say we want POSITIVE change, we FORCE mostly negative energy on ourselves in our efforts;


  • We do things we really DON'T want to do

  • We FORCE ourselves to do something because we feel we "should" or "have to"

  • We do things we really DON'T like at this point in our life

  • We create MORE STRESS in our days because of how we're approaching our health practices

  • We focus regularly on the outcome, rather than the practice creating frustration and stress if it doesn't go "our way" every day


... the list goes on.



I will continue to stress that we have "been there, done that" in this approach. To add to PN's message;


🏋 We've tried the "I'll workout this way because I 'have to'" approach. It leaves us without consistency, enjoyment and in the end, no practice.


🍏 We've tried the "I'm really hungry, but my 'diet says' I've had enough already" approach. It leaves us even FURTHER away from practicing listening to OUR OWN PHYSIOLOGY and UNDERSTANDING our own individual needs.


🧘 We've tried the "if I go for a run, I'm 'allowed' to eat that piece of cake tonight" approach. Our physiology and existence runs much deeper than that oversimplification. Nothing can make OR break us so quickly. Again, pulling us further from LEARNING and UNDERSTANDING ourselves.


Time to STOP these practices and approaches. We have DECADES of proof and ever-worsening statistics that show IT'S NOT WORKING.


ALWAYS start with YOU as your FOUNDATION. ALWAYS!


What is your "WHY?" - WHY do you have the goal(s) you have for your health and wellbeing?


What are YOU willing to do? What are YOU NOT willing to do? - Make a list. It's ALL important to factor into your practices.


What do I ENJOY doing? What would I like to TRY to see if I may enjoy it? - Make a list. It's ALL important and it can open doors for you as well.


In health, comes happiness and a natural FLOW to your daily lifestyle and health practices. You CANNOT and WILL NOT find that if you are constantly FORCING things you DON'T want onto yourself "in the name of health".
