A Poem to Inspire

I've been diving in to poetry this year for a few reasons;

1) We don't use our CREATIVITY and IMAGINATION much anymore - And I want MORE of that in my life again. It feels FUN, it creates SPARK and SMILES, AND... it's healthy for our brain.
2) I want to read, write and study poetry to help with songwriting. I've written songs, but they usually come out when strong negative emotions are happening and I want to open up the possibility of utilizing MORE emotions in my songwriting.
3) I love reading and writing in general.
4) Poetry is another form of art to me. And when a poem speaks to me (like art or music), it JUST warms my soul. And that's a really awesome feeling. Who doesn't want that more often in their days!?
Now let me say, I'm not a fan of the poems you have "dissect". I like basic, straight to the point poetry that I can totally relate to, where you're not trying to figure out what the poet is saying with their words. That's just my thing. That's why I love Donna Ashworth's work so much!! She is one of the poets who sparked me diving into more of it this year.
I wanted to start sharing some of my favourites that I come across here, because the ones that speak to me SPARK something in me; INSPIRATION, THOUGHT, REFLECTION, FEELING and MOTIVATION are all words that these poems conjure up for me. Words are powerful, especially when paired with emotion and when they come from the heart.
I read this one recently and knew this would be shared with my Zen Blog readers. Sadly, the author was not named when I found it. However, according to Gemini (Google's A.I.) this poem is written by Australian poet, Erin Hanson. So we're gonna go with that. I LOVE her words. 🥰
You are not your age,
Nor the size of clothes you wear,
You are not a weight,
Or the colour of your hair.
You are not your name,
Or the dimples in your cheeks,
You are all the books you read,
And all the words you speak.
You are your croaky morning voice,
And the smiles you try to hide,
You're the sweetness in your laughter,
And every tear you've cried.
You're the songs you sing so loudly,
When you know you're all alone,
You're the places that you've been to,
And the one that you call home.
You're the things that you believe in,
And the people that you love,
You're the photos in your bedroom,
And the future you dream of.
You're made of so much beauty,
But it seems that you forgot,
When you decided that you were defined,
By all the things you're not.
I'm going to add a fifth reason why poetry found it's way back into my spare time this year....
5) It is an opportunity to SLOW DOWN and THINK about how something FEELS and CONNECTS with us. Sadly, we don't do THAT as often anymore. Yet there is plenty to help us do that in enjoyable ways, like this. 🥰
