Coaching in Action: "Motivation Concerns"

I had a client reach out in our app today with a message about her motivation recently (or lack thereof). The back and forth is a really great example of Coaching in Action. The stuff that REALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE in the client's ability to learn, grow and cultivate change for themselves.
Let's take a look...

I'm waiting on her reply, but the conversation brings up points I was excited to share in regards to Health & Wellness Coaching and HOW it works ...
Modern Coaching allows FLEXIBILITY
For many people, schedules are busy and appointments are tougher to commit to. Having YOUR OWN flexible scheduling with your health habits within your days is incredibly beneficial to building sustainable lifestyle practices. In this case, my can get coaching WHEN IT'S CONVENIENT FOR HER. Check out the timing in our messages:
🙋Her message was sent yesterday later in the day when I was already done work for the day. She knows (as do all clients), that I'll get back to her the next day ASAP when I am working again.
🙋 Her reply to mine, came shortly after I sent her my initial response/question.
🙋 Now, since my last replies it's been an hour or so. This client typically will respond within the same day, so I can now wait until SHE has time/ability to do so.
ZERO PRESSURE at either end, yet discussions and coaching still happen.
(*Arguably to a more efficient extent since there are no timelines/pressures to reply from either Coach or Client. Meaning, when a reply can be sent it's done with greater focus, ease and less rushed).
Coaching isn't a "Do this" or "Do as I say" Format
It's 2026 folks. We've been there and done that. It doesn't work and/or doesn't last. Why? Because LIFE (and humans) are complex. Also because your Coach DOES NOT know everything (shocking, I know! 🤪 True though!). Everyone is DIFFERENT. Coaching is about SUPPORT, EDUCATING and GUIDING clients, while providing the ability for them to make their OWN informed decisions and ACT on them. It's not as "black and white" or "straight forward" as social media gurus or marketing leads us to believe. Humans are much more complex than "do this, not that" ... And that's okay!
Therefore... 👇
The Coach is Going to ask YOU (the Client) YOUR Thoughts to get the Most Benefits
This conversation is a great example of how everyone is different. When I asked her how doing half of her routine is feeling, it helps remind my client that this is about HER (not my program). At the same time, I'm helping to bring an "ah ha" moment forward for her in regards to her mindset in HOW she approaches her routines. When her response was "I feel pretty good", now we can start to explore what she's really looking for? This client's goal was to help be consistent with her movement practices, manage some pain/discomfort (which we've done) and have something with a bit more accountability for herself to do most days of the week. She's done ALL OF THAT. Therefore, if you've done all you said you wanted to do AND you feel good (while doing just half of the plan we have laid out) - Why do you feel you "lack motiviation"? And "What's the problem with 'feeling good' right now (regardless of how much or little you do to feel that way)?"
A few things may happen with this back and forth with my client:
1) She'll realize she's doing all the things she's set out to do and be allowed to lift some unnecessary stress off her shoulders that she's attaching to her health habits.
2) She'll realize her goals and her WHY is changing, and we'll begin to shift conversations into how we can help her NOW as she continues to progress/change.
3) She may realize that she's not "lacking motivation", but perhaps her perspectives or her WHY is unbalanced with her goals, is creating this feeling of "lacking motivation".
This is what COACHING IN ACTION looks like. It's flexible in timing, it's about YOU (the client) and it's all exploring YOUR health and lifestyle that is important to YOU!!
