People say the darndest things eh? Sometimes you hear something someone says and it immediately resonates with you. That's the joy of working with people for a living is not only do you help and hopefully inspire them in ways, but that can certainly work both ways. Which to me reiterates why the Coach-Client relationship is a TEAM, not a "dictatorship" or "drill sargeant environment".
Do you have a "Soul Book"?
I have at least a few clients who LOVE to read. I love reading too. But they blow me out of the water! The other day my client was chatting about a book she plans to lend to me (Woo hoo!... Cuz it sounds awesome) and while we were chatting about it she called it her "soul book".
I talk along these lines in a past Zen Blog post but I've never thought about it in regards to books. I LOVE IT!!!
This of course can mean something a bit different for everyone. My client's definition of a soul book is:
"Anything that brings joy to your soul!
Anything that inspires you to make a move, or act or change."
What's your soul book right now? Are you reading one?
Have you ever "Thrown up on a page" before?
Yep. You read that correctly - My client "Throws up on her page" OFTEN. That's what she calls her journaling. I LOVE IT!!!!
When she started working with me just about a year ago, she described journaling as that and I immediately wanted to get some t-shirts made! What I REALLY love about it is it (in my opinion) describes journaling) in a very "free" sort of way. To me it says (as I believe and share with clients):
-There's no right or wrong way to journal
-"Journaling" can be pages of writing OR it can be one giant swear word on a given day!
-"Journaling" can simply be a "brain dump" before bed (eg: tomorrow's to-do list) OR it can be deep, personal thoughts and experiences.
-"Journaling" can be a combo of doodling and words... OR just doodles
However you want to "throw up on your page" is GREAT!

I personally feel that both of these views and way of wording a hobby/practice, creates a refreshing spin on it don't you think? To me, it works along the lines of what author, Pilar Gerasimo shares in "The Healthy Deviant" which is the idea that what we're doing to "better our health" isn't working, therefore in order to practice a healthier and happier lifestyle, does it not make sense to approach things differently than what MOST people are doing? .... YES, YES it does!!!
The simple practice of thinking of and approaching your practices with a different and fresh take, wording and/or approach is a MASSIVE BOOST to creating the positive changes in your health that you may be wanting to create.
