A Guest Post - Client Story: "I'm Different Now"

2 min read

My client shared this with me, out of the blue. It made me smile ear to ear. It followed up on our conversations in recent weeks. What makes these words so powerful is that SHE DID THIS.

SHE put in the work.

SHE was open to LISTENING, LEARNING and EXPLORING.

SHE was CONSISTENT in her efforts to CREATE the change she was seeking.

My client said, this has been a "work in progress" over the last 7-years. Our work together only came into play as of February 2025 when she was referred to me by her phsyio. Once again REMINDING US that DEEP HEALTH takes time, practice and consistency. It's NOT a 6-week "all out effort" and you're done.

I'm excited to share this guest post as THIS says SO MUCH in SO MANY WAYS!

(Thank you Mary Anne for sharing your thoughts, efforts and words with all of us!)

I’m not like I used to be, at least most of the time.

I don’t fill my calendar like I used to. I leave more white space so I can decide what I want to do in a given moment when I get there (like walking to a bakery).

I don’t ignore my body like I used to. I listen and feel for the energy, the aches, the niggling feeling that it’s trying to tell me something. Now I notice how it is changing as I get stronger.

I don’t plan chores first and the things I “should do”. Rather, I ask “When and where will I look for joy and fun this week?” and get that settled first.

I don’t use the word should any more. I like the alternatives - could, consider, possibly, or no.

I don’t wait for the desires of others to plan the food that I’m eating like I used to do.

Instead, I decide what I want to eat and ensure I have that available.

I’ve stopped worrying about the scale most of the time (but it’s tricky).

I don’t wait for other people to want to do something with me. Now I just go ahead and think about how I might meet new people.

I thought multitasking was efficient and ‘the way to go’. Did you know how wonderful nature sounds when you leave the earbuds, podcast, playlist or ebook at home when you just need to go for a walk?

My brain isn’t as chaotic now. And I’m not as pulled into looking backward at old memories, mistakes and embarrassments. Wondering and looking ahead is so much more satisfying.

I do lots of things differently like looking inward instead of outward, not trying too hard to please others, trusting and liking my growth and strength, looking for any opportunity to move, not worrying about what “they” might think, and believing that my age and other personal numbers are no longer limiting factors.

I used to think everything was a “one shot only” so get it right the first time. Now I embrace process, patience, play, trial and error, learning and understanding that I am and always will be a work in progress.

I’m not who I used to be. I’m different now.
