It's a simple question isn't it? Yet, it's often avoided or overlooked in efforts to help ourselves.
FACT: Most people want to feel good, have energy, feel confident, resilient and independant and manage pain/discomfort. After all, if you didn't care about your health you probably wouldn't be visiting sites like ours or reading the Zen Blog would you?
If you think about your average day and the different things you do during the days;
"When do you feel your best?"
What types of things are you doing or not doing? Write them down in a list. Here's an example....
Things I'm doing when I feel my best
Things I'm NOT doing when I feel my best
Playing sports with friends Sitting for hours at a time
Hiking / Walking / Running Working too long / consecutive hours
Lifting / Strength Training "Binge snacking" or eating by habit
Camping / Cottage Ruminating on stressful thing/situation
Fly Fishing Surfing the internet / Scrolling
Playing Board Games Replying to messages when busy
Playing and/or performing music Rushing
Reading Letting others control MY time
Hanging out with friends Being away from home too often
Campfires
Exploring in Nature
Getting to bed on time
Waking up early
Drawing / Art
Writing / Creating
Being mindful of my food
Creating a "non-rushed" schedule/day
Away from my phone (eg: in another room)
Movement (yard work, cottage property etc)
Once you create a list like this, now you have an easy visual of what to implement MORE of (even in small ways) each day and what to try to minimize in your days in order to feel good!
It's an Exercise in Reality
If we don't feel well most days, or spend much of our limited human energy complaining about this pain, or how tired we feel or how forgetful we are, this exercise can help you realize ...
💪 Do you have very few things in your days that DO make you feel good?
💪 Do you spend more time doing things that make you feel not so good? or the things that make you feel good?
This reality check can also help you quickly realize; It's not my body being "against me", but rather the choices I'm making in my days that impact HOW GOOD or POOPY I feel. 💩 No one likes feeling poopy!

Check in with yourself and DO what makes YOU feel your best!
As always, we're not trying to say "this is good" or "this is bad". We can do things from both lists here. However we'll feel better more often by ensuring we're doing the things that make us feel GOOD more than things that maybe don't. It's a matter of balance and ensuring when there is some of the "blah" stuff in your days, that you balance it with a GOOD CHUNK OF GOOD. 🙂
Unsure what makes you feel good? That's ok. Begin to become aware and mindful of how you feel while doing all kinds of activities, hobbies etc... You can also experiment with HOW you do a chosen activity. For example, if you typically head out the door for a morning power walk, try a day or two of just going out for a walk with no intentions other than that and see how it makes you feel! If you're in the gym pumping some iron, try rolling through your strength session by leaving some "reps in the tank" each set and see how you feel afterwards.
Feeling good feels good. The question is ~ WHY don't we do it more often? If you want help discovering how to go about this and creating this mindset/approach to your health practices, connect with 'Coach D' and start the conversation.
