Practice Being Happy with Where You're at NOW

A client (inadvertaintly) used my own coaching against me recently. In our session, her friend who shares the session with her, was mentioning an exercise she was given by her physio, so I popped down on the floor to confirm what we were talking about. My client started to laugh and said:

"I think I missed my calling! I sit at a computer all day and type, meanwhile you have a job where you just pop down to the floor 'in the fetal position' whenever you want" 🤣

As much as we had a good laugh (as we always do), it was one of those moments of gratitude where I could take a breath, smile and think:

"I'm pretty lucky to do what I do for a living"

I had a conversation with another client this week along these lines, who changed up an app she was using for her yoga/pilates DESPITE her usual app working for her. That switch left her NOT enjoying her new routine and left her sore (this will be discussed in a future blog post for sure! 😉). Our discussion was about BEING HAPPY with where you're at NOW!! And this came to my mind immediately as my clients and I were laughing last night in their session.

We all have those days...

Whether you love your job or not, EVERYONE has those days where you think those thoughts like;

"Why am I doing this?"

"Maybe I should just go work for someone else instead of running my own business"

"Maybe I've done this career long enough and it's time for a change"

ree

"I wish I made more money"

"Why can't I just NOT feel like business is a struggle for a while"

Everything in those thoughts is either about what I DON'T have or NON-PRESENT thinking (future, past or external factors). To add to that, it's GENERALIZATION, it's COMPARISON and it's certainly NOT looking at what I DO have in my day to day job and lifestyle....

"I may not make as much money as [insert name], but I also work less hours in the week (by design) and make as much as others do in 40+ hrs/week, WITHOUT breaks in their day or control of their work time"

"I answer to no one at work but myself... (ok, and my wife 😘)"

"I may have the headaches that come with being self-employed, but I also have TOTAL control of WHEN and HOW much I work, day to day"

"I can mold my schedule to ensure I not only get work done, but I have time for my own health as well"

"I get to HELP others feel better inside and out, EVERY SINGLE DAY"

"I get to have serious conversations, funny conversations, "play", joke, swear... all day, everyday whenever I want at work"

....

(According to some...) "I get to lie on the floor 'in the fetal position'... WHENEVER I WANT" 🤣

As silly as we were (and usually) are when the three of us get together for their sessions, this comment helped REMIND me (and to remind YOU) that we get VERY GOOD at looking at the NEGATIVES, the STRUGGLES and what we DON'T have.

It's VERY IMPORTANT to PRACTICE looking at the things that ARE GOING WELL FOR YOU, that you feel GOOD about and ALL THE THINGS YOU DO HAVE. The more you practice this, the less energy draining vibes you'll have. ☯

(I do love when these reminders pop up every so often. For anyone in the health profession who deal with people, on very personal levels, day in and day out as a career; it's draining and it can be a heavy load at times mentally and emotionally. It's so refreshing when little things like this pop up! It keeps you motivated, excited about your work and helps give that boost of gratitude that gets lost at times.)

This Zen Quickie is brought to you by: "Funny, yet true things that clients say".

Thanks KC!! 😉🙏
