Check-in with YOUR "why"

With this topic, I'd like to also add to check in with your EGO and how much THAT is getting in the way of your 'why'.

I heard a wonderful conversation on the Dr Chatterjee podcast recently with Lawrence Van Lingen. They discussed at one part 'running' and mindset. The gist of the chat was about how people will do something HUGE like a marathon in which they'll not only push themselves "through injury" during training sometimes, but also during the run itself; "I just need to push through to finish no matter what" kind of mentality. Then after the race, they have lasting injury effects that (may) last weeks or months with rehab needed OR they NEVER run again (because "that was enough" kind of thing.)

WHY?? Just to say "I did a marathon?" Is that worth it?

🏃Is ignoring your body's signals worth it?

🏃Is ONE event/race worth weeks/months of pain or discomfort?

🏃Is doing something like that worth you NOT enjoying running again? (On that note, does that not tell you that maybe you actually DON'T like running??)

In contrast...

If you did the marathon, but walked when your body said it needs a break... is that bad!?

If you did the marathon and you were hurting so you STOPPED and took yourself out of the race... is that bad!?

If you approached training in a way that felt challenging, but NOT painful or awful (so that you finished and felt good and even proud of yourself)... is that bad!?

We're using an easy example for running here, but this pertains to MOST things we do in our health habits. It's important to do a CHECK-IN with your WHY and with YOUR reality;

Is what I'm doing sustainable?

Is what I'm doing enjoyable?

Is what I'm doing hurting me (not just physically either)?

Is what I'm doing necessary or am I doing this because I think I "should" or because I'm comparing myself to other people's lives, values, abilities and experiences instead of MY OWN?

This Zen Quickie (as with any of them) is aimed to get YOU thinking about YOU and YOUR approach to YOUR health and wellbeing. The most success comes from when people listen to their OWN physiology and follow their OWN path, not someone elses. This is a mindset and narrative that we try hard to change at Zenergy Health & Wellness.
